Biology January 25-29, 2016
Great Job, Biology Students! You are working so hard as we learn about invertebrates - even flatworms, round worms, and segmented worms! You are beginning to verbalize your observations from "oh, wow!" to "I never knew there was so much to a worm!" You are using scientific vocabulary with ease and even getting over the "gross" factor!
This week we will begin to learn about Echinodermata (spiny-skinned invertebrates such as starfish) and you will be fascinated by the incredible beauty as well as the amazing body structure.
We will not have a quiz this week but will keep up with new vocabulary.

This week we will be revisiting complex sentences and starting compound-complex sentences. We were having trouble understanding these sentences last week. I would like to revisit them to make sure everyone masters them. This will also be the last week we will be using "Grammar Town". We will begin "Grammar Voyage" in February. Hooray!

History for Week of January 11-15, 2016
This week we will change how we are doing our Reading and History.
We will be doing History on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. This week we will read Chapters 16-22 in A History of Us Book 2 Making Thirteen Colonies by Joy Hakim.
Please have children read these chapter before Wednesday. We will discuss these chapter on Wednesday.
On Thursday and Friday we will attempt to build a replica of a New England village to include Meeting House, the Inn, the Mill, School, furniture maker, copper smith and black smith, the stocks, the well, and the common. Wish us luck!

We will discuss these chapters all at one time. Please have students read them on Monday evening. Monday we will create of map of Jamestown and write in our journals.

In History we will read 3 chapters a night in our new A History of Us Book- Making Thirteen Colonies. The students will recap what they have read and color and label a map of Virginia, and create a map of Jamestown. They will create a cartoon of Indians and colonists and create a pamphlet to encourage more colonists to come to America.
